Canada Industrial Relations Board

The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) is an independent, representational, quasi-judicial tribunal responsible for the interpretation and administration of Part I (Industrial Relations) and certain provisions of Part II (Occupational Health and Safety) of the Canada Labour Code. The CIRB decides federal labour relations issues.

Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal

Hears appeals of Ministry of Social Development decisions that refuse, reduce or discontinue income, disability, or hardship assistance or a supplement. It also hears Ministry of Children and Family Development decisions that refuse, reduce or discontinue a child care subsidy.

The Employment Standards Branch administers the Employment Standards Act and Regulations, which set minimum standards of wages and working conditions in most workplaces in BC.

Labour Relations Board of British Columbia

The BC Labour Relations Board is an independent administrative tribunal with the mandate to mediate and settle employment and labour relations matters related to unionized workplaces. The Labour Relations Code governs all aspects of collective bargaining amongst the provincially-regulated employers and employees. This includes the acquisition of collective bargaining rights, the process of collective bargaining, the settlement and regulation of disputes in both the public and private sectors, and the regulation of the representation of persons by their bargaining agents. The BC Labour Relations Board deals with unionized workplaces, while the Employment Standards Branch deals with non-union workplaces in BC.

Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal

The Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT) is the final level of appeal in the workers' compensation system.  Under the Workers Compensation Act, WCAT has jurisdiction over a variety of workers’ compensation matters, including employer assessments, prevention penalties, discriminatory actions, and certificates for the courts regarding the status under the Act of parties to litigation.  WCAT also hears appeals regarding benefits under workers’ compensation claims.

WorkSafe BC – Review Division

WorkSafeBC is responsible for administering the Workers Compensation Act. It makes decisions on claims for work-related injuries and disease, assessments for employers, and the enforcement of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. Its Review Division provides impartial reviews of these decisions.
