The CNSC

• Implements regulations and by-laws with the approval of the Governor in Council.
• Orders penalties for lack of compliance with the regulations
• Makes decisions on the licensing of major nuclear facilities through a public hearing process

The CER:

• regulates pipelines, energy development and trade in the Canadian public interest.
• handles applications and public hearings for companies applying to build a federally regulated pipeline, powerline, or offshore renewable energy project
• Public hearings allow relevant stakeholders including companies, indigenous communities, interest groups, and individuals affected by a specific proposed project to participate and be consulted in the application process

The BCER reviews and determines whether applications for oil and gas activity permits by companies looking to explore, develop, produce, and market oil and gas resources in B.C. should be approved.

The BCUC

•  ensures that regulated entities comply with BCUC orders and governing legislation 
• reviews questions and complaints from members of the public about the actions of regulated entities

ERAT hears appeals of certain decisions issued by the Oil and Gas Commission under the Oil and Gas Activities Act. ERAT has created Notice of Appeal forms. You do not have to use one, but they provide space to fill in all the details you have to provide, in order to start an appeal with the ERAT.
